Requirements to rent a car in the Dominican Republic
Before you book, here's everything you need to know about documents, the deposit and how the process works with Schneider Rent Car.
Documents and minimum age
To rent a vehicle you need a valid ID and a valid driving licence, in your own name and legible. We accept licences from any country — it doesn't need to be a Dominican one.
- A valid ID
- A valid driving licence, in your own name and legible
- Minimum age: 21
How booking works
Everything is arranged over WhatsApp. You give us the exact date, we confirm availability for that day, and you pick the vehicle you want.
Then you send us your ID along with proof of a US$100 booking payment, and we send back the invoice and receipt confirming your reservation. The rest of the total is paid on the day of the rental, when you pick up the vehicle, in cash or by bank transfer.
The refundable deposit
On top of the booking payment and the rental price, there's a refundable US$200 deposit. It's returned in full when you return the vehicle, as long as there's no damage. It's not a charge — it's a guarantee.
Insurance, mileage and fuel
The daily rate includes the mandatory third-party liability insurance, but it doesn't cover damage to the rented vehicle. For that there are optional coverage plans from US$8 per day, selectable when you book.
There's no mileage limit, and the vehicle is returned with the same fuel level it was delivered with.
